Arriving To Tarapoto

It takes just one hour from Lima and there are daily flights operated by four airlines. Many hotels provide an Airport pickup service. Alternatively, you can use `Motokar´rickshaws which are licensed to operate in the airport. The ride takes 10-15 minutes and the cost is around 7 soles. Tarapoto is an interesting and relatively quiet city with a population of around 150,000, and offers plenty of good dining options.

Please note that during the rainy season (Jan-March) in particular, flights can get delayed or occasionally cancelled if rain is especially heavy.

What to Bring

It's best to bring different layers so you can be flexible and adaptable depending on what each day brings. Certainly, due to being on a mountain with lots of vegetation, it can get damp with sudden shifts in temperature as cloud covers over the sky. For ceremonies, a set of warm clothes including socks is recommended in case the night is chilly. Humidity can make the steps and walkways slippery, especially after the rain, so please choose your footwear carefully.

•    Clothes for both warm and cool weather

•    Comfortable warm layers for ceremonies

•    Warm socks or slippers

•    Battery powered headlamp/head torch and spare batteries

•    Natural bug repellant

•    Small padlock if you want to use personal lockbox

•    Light boots with a good grip

•    Flip-flops, Crocs, sandals or slip-on shoes

•    Poncho or raincoat

•    Bathing suit (for dip in waterfall)
